A Tribute to a very special person Victoria (Gapuz) Balcita It was about 1977, at the age of 24, that Victoria Gapuz came to work for us in San Fernando, LaUnion, Philippines. She had come out of a cult and received Christ as Savior and Lord. She observed the church planting spirit that dominated our home. She asked questions, she learned, she believed that with God's help she could do it. On her day off, Sunday, she went to her barrio along the sea. She led a group of young adults through the little booklet, Good News for You. They were saved. She discipled them, a church was born - without the presence of the foreigner. She led in the securing of property, the building of a chapel - always thinking with God's help they could do it and they did. When Dottie and I left the area, sister Vicky was chosen to coordinate the work of the churches and church planting. She did so much more than we had ever done. She was single which allowed her to stay with churches who needed special attention. She married Brother Pedro Balcita. They set up a church planting school with the objective of having Bible studies in every barrio in the province. The Lord called them to do work in Hong Kong. They served there for one year and had to come home due to illness. We were shocked to hear that sister Vicky went to be with Her Lord this week. Our family loved her, she was a special friend to our three sons and ministered to us in unbelievable ways. She was one of the most successful church planters I have ever known - as a single woman, then as a married woman. She knew the Master Teacher and served Him well. We will miss Vicky, but her life will go on and on in the lives of those she touched. Her compassion, wisdom and love came from above and touched us all. Vicky we will see you again. Praise the Lord and thank you.
